Makarios Junior School not only provides high quality education to children from both high and low income backgrounds but also aims to improve child nutrition by providing practical nutrition education to our learners and ensuring that a healthy diet and lifestyle among our children persists. The school aims at creating and nurturing a school community, where children excel in their achievements and are inspired to continue learning in the future. Our vision is a community where all children feel loved, respected and encouraged to develop to their fullest potential.
We particularly offer nutrition education particularly to our learners aiming to improve child nutrition and cognitive abilities which is critical to human development and to the realization of human rights as per the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of Zero Hunger.
We provide an opportunity to prevent and manage these various forms of malnutrition and contribute to improving educational outcomes. Our learners who have participated in school nutrition activities further act as influencers, with a particular impact on their families and younger and older siblings, potentially reducing the number of children starting school already malnourished.
Nutrition knowledge is most effective in our supportive environment and we link this to practical food- and nutrition-related activities such as Lunch, feeding, gardening, nutrition education through playbooks and health programmes that offer special opportunities for practical teaching in nutrition and this offers learner’s first-hand experience in learning nourishing and hygienic dietary practices.
